Taipei, Feb. 15 (CNA) Shipments of Taiwanese makers’ touch-enabled panels for smartphones, tablet computers and laptop computers will continue to fall in the first quarter of this year due to the traditionally low season, according to a local research firm.
Total shipments of touch-enabled panels by Taiwanese companies are expected to reach 53.65 million units in the first quarter, down nearly 19 percent from the 66.11 million units in the previous quarter, Digitimes Research said in a recent statement.
The Taiwanese panel makers are facing bigger challenges as the product cycles for Apple Inc.’s iPad 2, Google Nexus 7 and Amazon tablets are coming to an end, Digitimes said.
Shipments of touch panels for smartphones, tablets and laptops by Taiwanese companies are expected to drop 7.5 percent, 48.5 percent and 19.8 percent quarter-on-quarter, respectively, during the January-March period, according to Digitimes.
